    OIJC in NYC!

Team OIJC brought plenty of liquid gold from the Florida Sunshine Tree to Manhattan for the 2009 Fancy Food Show. The trade industry expo featured hundreds of exhibitors from around the globe introducing their products to restauranteurs, grocers and other food distributors. Many of your favorite foods began their journey into your kitchen at the Fancy Food Show. Here, Marygrace Sexton, CEO, is pictured with her sales team (L to R) Front Row: Jeremy Montgomery, Bil Martinelli, Lance Conley. Back Row: Tim Gara, John Martinelli, Michael D’Amato.

Team OIJC put their best face forward by including the summer interns in the food show. The marketing interns worked long hours on their feet pouring hundreds of gallons of juice to the 15,000 attendees over three days.

Marketing Director, Lisa Rymer, beams with pride at her marketing interns Natalie Sexton and Alexandra Posada. Many of the decisions about this year’s booth design were made by these two interns… and those decisions added up to one resounding success!

The male interns were equally important in this year’s efforts. Jenson Martinelli (R) assisted in building this year’s booth. Both he and Mike Simpson (L) kept the supply of juice flowing for patrons eager to savor the incomprable flavor of Fresh Squeezed, Florida-grown citrus juice.

This year’s booth featured frozen slushy machines filled with Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice and All Natural Pink Lemonade. Fans of these DEEEEE-licious concoctions couldn’t believe juice could be so good with nothing artificial added to enhance the taste. Kids could be snacking on Frozen OJ Slushies from OIJC and get all the nutrition they need from fruit. Hopefully, the idea will catch on.

Thank you to all of the people whose effort contributed to bringing OIJC Orange Juice to the Big Apple. We all loved the city, the sights, the sounds, the food… and most of all: the people! Can’t wait to do it again next year! To see even more of OIJC in NYC, check out this video:

Small Farm and Alternative Enterprises Scholarship

Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company is accepting applications for 10 scholarships to attend the Florida Small Farm and Alternative Enterprises Conference August 1 - 2 in Kissimmee. Hosted by the University of Florida/IFAS and Florida A&M University, the conference is an educational opportunity to discuss the future of sustainable farming and alternative food sources in the context of a global economy.

Several government agencies, such as the Florida Department of Agriculture and the USDA, will be in attendance. The welcome speaker is Charles Bronson, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture. Economist John Echart from the University of Missouri is slated as the keynote speaker.

This inaugural year of the conference was precipitated by the universities vision of augmenting the efforts of small farmers, allied industry representatives, researchers, educators, policy makers and others interested in strengthening Florida’s small farming community. Workshops, discussions and hands-on presentations will be conducted to introduce groundbreaking research and support programs for sustainable farming practices.

Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company is family owned and operated by 5th generation citrus growers who actively support the future of Florida agriculture. In the past three months, the company has sponsored THIRTEEN scholarships, including a leadership program in Washington D.C. with 4-H of St. Lucie County and two botany scholarships at the Florida State Science Fair.

The Florida Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises Conference scholarship is open to graduate and undergraduate students attending either of the host schools. Currently, there are about 20 applicants from the US, India, China, Malaysia, Haiti, Zimbabwe and France who are interested in a wide variety of agricultural practices, among them plant medicine, research, teaching, sustainable farming and urban rooftop gardens.
