ORANGE IS THE NEW GREEN!

Orchid Island Juice Company is continuously looking for new and innovative ways to minimize our carbon footprint on the planet. Combined with our contributions to a multitude of efforts to clean up the environment and  our support of conservation research, we have implemented our own programs to REDUCE, RE-USE and RECYCLE.

REDUCE

Waste minimization is both a process and a policy to reduce the waste created by an individual, a company and a society. When a company is reducing properly, their commercial output should maintain its consistency while the amount of materials and energy used to produce the output decrease.

Even though we are located in Florida – where it gets VERY hot in the summer – we are conscientious about keeping the air conditioning at conservative temperatures. We are also sticklers for turning off lights in rooms not currently occupied. As our fluorescent bulbs burn out in the office, we are replacing them with energy efficient lighting.

We use solar light to illuminate the American flag in front of our building.

RE-USE

Reusing can be a challenge for many companies. Most goods are easier to recycle then use again. At OIJC we reuse office supplies, specifically paper products. Citrus peel is another product that can be reused. Several farmers in central Florida use our peel as cud for their cattle. Check out our segment on feeding peel to dairy cows.

** OIJC is currently exploring the possibility of converting citrus to an alternative source of energy!

RECYCLE

We believe it is our responsibility to take care of God’s green earth. Our recycling program currently consists of the appropriate disposal of plastic, cardboard and trash.
