Holiday Chocolate-Orange Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies


zest of one orange
2/3 cup butter (10 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons) , softened
1 cup granulated sugar (PLUS 1/3 cup set aside)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp Natalie’s Orange Juice
1 1/2 cups flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
10 oz package dark chocolate chips


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Mix 1/3 cup granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon orange zest and set aside.
3. Beat butter, 1 cup sugar, and remaining orange zest until smooth.
4. Beat in the egg, vanilla, and Natalie’s Orange Juice.
5. In a separate bowl combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
6. Slowly mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients, two spoonfuls at a time.
7. Stir in dark chocolate chips.
8. Roll dough into 1.5″ balls and roll into the sugar-zest mixture.
9. Place dough balls onto non stick cookie sheets, 3″ apart.
10. Bake for 9-11 minutes depending on oven strength (the cookies shown were baked 9.5 minutes)
11. Let cool for several minutes then transfer to a cooling rack.
