The Growing Red Trend

Why Green isn’t the only Color You Should be Drinking
Date: July 19th, 2016

People always say, ‘eat a rainbow,’ because it’s the easiest way to ensure you are supplying your body with all the nutrients it needs.

But what about drinking your rainbow? No, not in the form of artificial drinks such as soda, but by drinking a colorful array of squeezed fresh juices.

You may have noticed that with the health trend, juices have slowly become the “in” thing to drink these days. Words such as cold pressed and raw may come to mind.

Luckily, Natalie’s is well ahead of the trend as we are a health conscious and clean label juice company that has been going strong for 26 years.

A lot of the juices joining the health revolution are certainly healthy alternatives to fizzy drinks and easy to drink juice packs. Yet sometimes they are still laden with added sugars, concentrates, flavor packs, or deemed to have “natural flavors and colors.”

What’s more, you may think juices labeled as ‘not from concentrate’ equates to a healthier option.

Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case.

Most big name brands do the following to guarantee a longer shelf life:

According to the Daily Mail, “juice made (not from concentrate) is still heated and stored in air-free tanks for up to a year. Again, the process strips the juice of flavor, which has to be added afterwards. But the flavor packs contain orange essence and orange oil so don’t have to appear separately on the ingredients list.”

Why do some brands do this?  The company knows that having a product with a shelf life of 30 or more days will have a better chance of being purchased before the expiration date. But the truth is that food should be minimally processed with minimal ingredients to retain its nutritional integrity. A longer shelf life means additives that keep the product (drinkable) for longer.

At Natalie’s, the consumer’s health is our first responsibility. Through a special pasteurization process, each of our available juices have the shortest shelf lives you can find at the retail level, ensuring you receive the highest amount of nutrients possible.

And with your health in mind, we want to introduce what we are calling The Red Trend. While we love a healthy, freshly made green juice we think our red hued juice friends deserve just as much attention.

Stay tuned for next week’s write about introducing Natalie’s one-of-a-kind Fresh Tomato and Orange Beet juices.
